Thermal Management
The SM-01-S3 Micro Z1 LED module requires careful attention to mounting and cooling to ensure that the junction temperature of the LED is kept well below the maximum rating specified in the Lumileds datasheet.
We recommend that the module be mounted to an aluminum or copper finned heatsink exposed to open air for optimal cooling. The module can be mounted to the heat sink in one of two ways:
- 10mm square pressure-sensitive, thermally conductive tape (Recommended)
- Arctic Silver thermally conductive adhesive
Before fastening the module to the heat sink, ensure that the two mating surfaces are perfectly flat and clean to maximize heat transfer to the heatsink. Mechanical fasteners are not recommended for this module.
The bottom of the LED module is electrically neutral, so it is unnecessary to electrically isolate the base from the cooling surface.
Optic Compatibility
The SM-01 is compatible with any optic certified for use with the LUXEON Z series of LEDs. There are no optic alignment holes or notches, so the designer will need to ensure that the LED is correctly aligned under the secondary optic.
Carrier Tab
The Saber Micro-Z1 is provided as part of a Carrier Tab. The tab is v-scored, so the LED module can be easily separated from the carrier.
The carrier tab makes it easier to handle the Saber Z1 during transport, storage, and assembly, minimizing the risk of damage to the LED-emitting surface.
Connection Soldering
Due to its small size, soldering connecting wires to the Micro-Z1 module will require medium to advanced soldering skills. To help, the carrier tab includes 16 soldering practice pads where you can refine your small-part soldering skills before you solder leads to the module.
Stock
We usually keep a small number of this part in stock. However, we can produce virtually any quantity you require on demand. Please get in touch with us for lead times for orders above 1,000 pieces.
LED Binning
Order quantities less than 2,000 pieces are produced from unbinned stock (cut strips). We can supply binned LED modules (built from full reels)) If you order in 2,000+ quantities, please contact us for binning details.
You can learn more about LED binning here.
