The SZ-05-U1 LED module can produce 1300 milliwatts of light power when powered at 500mA, and with proper cooling can be pushed as high as 2472 milliwatts when powered at it&#39s maximum current rating of 1000mA.

With a 2.6mm square emitter area, this makes this LED module your best option for maximum light output from the smallest source.

This remarkable level of light power is accomplished with 4 tightly positioned, series connected, LHUV-0385-A030 385nm LUXEON Z LEDs soldered to a thermally efficient, 20mm (0.8″) square, 1.6mm (0.063″) thick MCPCB aluminum base.

Thermal Management

The SZ-05-U1 Saber Z5 LED module requires careful attention to mounting and cooling to ensure that the junction temperature of the LED is kept well below the maximum rating specified in the Lumileds datasheet.

Bench testing that we have conducted with SZ-05 modules with all LEDs powered at 700mA in an open-air environment and an ambient temperature of 25°C has indicated that a heat sink with a thermal rating of 10 C°/W or lower should be adequate. However, you will need to perform your own testing and analysis to determine if this size of heat sink will be suitable for your application.

We recommend that the module be mounted to an aluminum or copper finned heatsink exposed to open air for optimal cooling. The module can be mounted to the heat sink in one of two ways:

Before fastening the module to the heat sink, ensure that the two mating surfaces are perfectly flat and clean to maximize heat transfer to the heatsink. Mechanical fasteners are not recommended for this module.

The bottom of the LED module is electrically neutral, so it is unnecessary to electrically isolate the base from the cooling surface.

Optic Compatibility

The Saber Z5 has been specifically designed to accommodate any Carclo 20mm optic that can be mounted into the Carclo 20mm Pegged Foot Optic Holder.

High-power LEDs include a primary optic for protection and light optimization. However, a secondary optic is often essential for better focus and light distribution.

All the optics except the Polymer 15 mm optic are 100% compatible with the SZ-05-U1 LED module. Polymer 15 mm optics cannot be used if you select the connector option.

Note: The optics listed here may not be ideal for ultraviolet or infrared LEDs. You will need to test the optic for your specific application.
